About me

Guitar teacher in leicestershire
I'm the one on the right
My name is Mark Felts, I was born in Boston, Lincolnshire and now currently live in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
I have been playing guitar for over 10 years now and have played with various bands all around the country. I have been playing with Baklash (function rock band) for the past 4 years, we play regularly around the country in various pubs, venues and functions.

In my early days of playing my main influences were bands like Rage Against The Machine, Massive Attack, Blink 182 and various other popular bands of the time, my dad(who was a popular local rock guitar player in the 60's and 70's) taught me my first few chords and got me going.
From then on my interest was pushed towards classic rock, bands such as Deep Purple, The Doors and my main love Led Zeppelin.

After a few years of playing and having a thirst for more knowledge i got into the more progressive side, bands such as ELP, King Crimson and Yes, it was through my love for King Crimson and Robert Fripp's eccentric playing style I went to see G3 live in nottingham with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Robert Fripp, i was blown away.

Through regularly visiting Roadhouse music in Boston, I met local guitar player Dean Freeman and from then on listened to his recommendations and had several lessons with him, learning such things as modes and technique.

My interest from then on was all shred, shred, shred. I was amazed by players such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert and Vinnie Moore and was highly focused on becoming as good as them, concentrating on my technique in a very disciplined manner.
I then started taking lessons from Musicians Institute graduate Duncan Cowling, who created very solid foundations in my playing such as rhythm, harmony, technique and sight reading.
From then on i have since had a thirst for knowledge, regularly jamming with anyone I can in an effort to get better and increase my musicality.

My main interest for several years now has been Jazz music, which I love to learn, read about and most importantly listen to. Favourite musicians include Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk and guitarists such as Guthrie Govan, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Pat Metheny and many more.

Outside of music my other interests are cars, films and going for walks in the countryside.
